The GitCover Commons gUG is a non-profit corporation based in Friedrichsdorf. We develop open-source software for Git-native compliance, provide training, conduct research, and raise awareness about digital sovereignty. We are not profit-driven — our work is funded by donations and grants.

Recognized as non-profit. Official notice from the Bad Homburg v.d.H. Tax Office dated 05/27/2026 pursuant to Section 60a (1) AO. We are authorized to issue official donation receipts for donations.

We believe that digital sovereignty and verifiable business organization should not be a privilege of large corporations. With Git as the natural compliance carrier, open standards (OSCAL, OPA, V7GUID), and free education, we develop tools that belong to you — not to a vendor. As a non-profit corporation, we are accountable to our Articles of Association, not to quarterly reports.

Experiences & Lessons Learned

We publish anonymized experience reports from incident response, data hygiene, and Git-native compliance — exactly the topics where small mistakes have large effects.

First post: A missing backup and an unquoted deduplication script deleted ~6,400 unique files. How we recovered ~98 % from a Nextcloud mirror, an external backup, and Git origin.
